“Where the hell have you been…?” A recap of 2022 so far…

Hey!

I’ve wanted to post more to this account this year but unfortunately, the business that is my life has not allowed for it.

So, in case you’ve been wondering where I’ve been….

Shortly after my last post, I quickly fell into the mind set of producing my short film, Earshot. We spent three quick weeks in pre-production, four days of principal photography in February and March, and an additional two months of post-production ending in late April. This was a learning experience for me, and it cultivated a lot of the professional relationships I have right now. I was able to be on the front lines of my desired art form and have fun doing it. Earshot picked up six nominations at my school’s student show and another festival nomination in August of this year. It won two of those nominations for acting. In fact, it swept those categories.

(Reid and Charlize — You two are amazing and I love you both!)

Two nights before the principal photography on Earshot began, I took a chance on myself and volunteered to be 1st Assistant Director on a film called No Harm, directed by Maggie Werhane and produced by Ryan Yancey. My job on this project was to solve every logistical issue possible in the pre-production process, and then run the set. I was a bit anxious at times and to this day, I accept any feedback that I can get to be better at it. I owe them a lot for trusting me enough to wrangle this complex production. In a way I want to thank the entire crew for it, because until I called the last shot, I wasn’t sure what the hell I was doing. It was a performance in many ways, and I was able to pull it off with their unflinching support.

Shortly after No Harm wrapped, I took the AD reins again on Yancey’s next film, The Birth and Death of the Domestic Alien. This one has all sorts of crazy makeups and special effects. We are currently three weeks away from shooting and we still have a lot of work to get done. The team we have is amazing, and every day has been a treat so far. This is one of two productions I am on the producing team for this fall, and my semester is busy as a result. I’ve had a lot of set experience in the last year, and I’m excited to see where it takes me.

In the meantime, my analytical brain hasn’t given up as I have consumed several movies and TV shows that I have some interesting thoughts about! I have some articles coming soon on this account that have been cooking inside my head for almost a year now. One of these articles has required a rewatch that has consumed twenty-one separate nights of the last seven months. I’ve had time to think about what my angle is, and you will see soon enough!

Stay tuned!
